My mum’s obsession with gardens has deep roots, quite literally, passed down from her ancestors (great gardeners and even botanists!) this same passion is already flourishing in my 7 and 8-year-olds, thanks to my Mum.
I’ve always loved gardening—despite never having had my very own garden (I’ve always rented) I have always had lots of flowers and herbs and other plants — like hidden orchids, that surprise each year under the frangipani tree, and our two “frog-habitat” ponds — which right now have beautiful water irises, one a rich red and the other classic blue.
So that love of plants is in my blood… even through I’ve never had the time or space for it! Between raising kids and my current obsession with art, the idea struck me: perhaps Kymba the Gardener will show up in paint, not in real life—at least for now.
So here I share a little Art Journal video I’ve just put together, inspired by the beginnings of an idea I’m playing with – a series about Mum’s garden. Who knows if I’ll actually do it because I get excited about lots of ideas, but for now, I’m just going along with idea for now.
Here show you around Mum’s garden and introduce my little red moleskin sketchbook, which I’ve only just started. While I’ve created quite a few pieces of artwork when at mum’s – like the birds and ducks here – I haven’t done many sketches or paintings of the actual garden and mum’s cherished plants… yet!
This is just a little glimpse into what I’ve been working on. I hope you enjoy it!
